No Dream Is Too Big

“God would not have put a dream in your heart if he had not already given you everything you need to fulfill it.” ~ Unknown

I don’t know where this quote came from or who said it. I saw it on Pinterest and felt like it was a useful thought to contemplate today.

I really resonate strongly with this quote. I can tell you that this has been true in my life. Every time I have had a truly inspired dream..not a goal…but a dream that seemed to come from beyond myself, the Universe has risen up to help me make it happen. It doesn’t matter how huge this dream seemed at first or how unrealistic, it came to be. Or at the very least, the opportunity to make the dream happen came into my awareness. Whether I ultimately decided to pursue the dream is a different story because sometimes we think we want something but when the reality of it is actually in our present moment we realize that it isn’t what we wanted after all.

As an example, I had a coaching client who claimed that what she really wanted to do was move to another state and have a particular job that happened to be open at the moment. We discussed it and she decided to apply for the job. She held this job opportunity so far up in her mind that she didn’t think she had any chance of getting it. Well, as no surprise to me, she did get offered the position. Her “dream job” in the state that she wanted to move to was hers for the taking. All she had to do was say yes and start packing her bags. She took the job and moved, right? Nope. Having her dream so close to reality made her realize that she couldn’t leave all of her friends and family members to pursue her dream. They were more important to her.

Sometimes, as in the example above, the Universe gives us the thing we think we want to help us figure out what it is we really want and need. If she hadn’t gotten the job offer she would still be pining over this dream and it would continue to keep her from appreciating what she already has. Now she can move on with her life. She still wanted a better job than she currently had, so she decided to apply for jobs near where she lives that are closer matches to the job in the other state.

My client truly believed that she could not get that job and that her dream could never come true. But, I asked her, if you really believe you can’t get it, what harm is there in applying for it anyway? To me, it’s like going to look at a house you can’t afford or test driving an expensive luxury car..your dream car.. even when you know you can’t afford it. It gives you a taste of the thing and might just inspire you to move towards it a little more. I figured that if she applied and didn’t get the job then there was no harm done and she had at least tried and I also had a little feeling that she actually did have a chance to get it. I asked my client what she would do if she was offered the position but she just couldn’t wrap her mind around it. So when the offer came in she was completely surprised and shocked. Suddenly her dream was sitting in her lap and she had to make a decision.

I’ve seen this happen so many times as a coach. People talk and talk and talk about how they want something but when the Universe brings it to them wrapped up with a bow with their name on it they suddenly realize that they didn’t want that thing after all. Well, the truth is that they did want the thing but they weren’t willing to give up the things that were more important to make the dream a reality. They’ve convinced themselves that it is so impossible that they never truly think about the reality of what it would mean if they did get the dream. As a coach, I work to prepare them for this, but when they are so convinced that it’s impossible, nothing I say can prepare them. But, I think it’s a powerful learning moment for my clients. First, they can put the dream away with the satisfaction of knowing that it actually was possible to achieve. This can be a huge boost to their self esteem and one the they need to carry them forward. Second, now that they have their priorities straightened out they can actually work towards a dream that will work within their lives. This is super helpful. We take a look at the aspects of the original dream that were so alluring and craft a new dream..or goal..that incorporates those aspects and creates a vision that is actually attainable and fulfilling to the client.

Let me assure you that if you have a dream, no matter how huge you think it is, it is attainable. I’m not going to tell you it will be easy or quick, but it can come to be. The Universe…with your help…will always provide you with what you need to make a deeply held dream come true. What you do next is up to you. We all have free will and the Universe will not hold hard feelings against you if you reject the gift, especially if you use it as a learning tool and let it propel you forward towards what it is that will truly make you happy. God, the Universe, Source, whatever you want to call it, loves all of us and wants us to be happy and is constantly working on your behalf to give you more of what you want.
